A Painful Goodbye......

hmmm so here i go again having not written for a month after my first post.....its not really as if i forget to write...i keep thinking of ideas and stuff i need to jot down but i somehow i never get to doing it.
last month's just been the most difficult one after having got to bangalore, other than ofcourse when i first moved in here and there was ragging and all of that.....later about all that.
after a wonderful vacation with my parents after 2 years in indonesia, the new year seemed to start on a perfect note. but it wasn't even a week gone before the perfect start came crushing down.

as im coming back after meeting my local guardian, niki, my roomate, messages that i need to get back as soon as possible to the hostel. bad timing, but my local guardian messages saying he just heard that 4 out 3 christ college b.com tourism students were thought to be dead at a water body some way from bannerghata. the nex few minutes spell pandemonium as i can't pin point which of my freinds this might be.....

the rest of the night is spent with only niki and me in the room praying and hoping with all our guts that our friend Nirmal (Nino) who went with his 3 classmates to TK Falls and had drowned while tryin to save a friend who slipped into the lake, would be found, safe and sound. its scary being at that position where you know that one person from your life might just disappear into oblivion and you can't do anything about it!

As we get ready to go to college next day knowing in our hearts that none of them could have survived a whole night in the water and live to see any of us, we can only pray that their bodies are recovered and there's a closure to the incident. No person, no incident, nothing could have prepared us for what lie ahead in that day.

As i sit for my psychology class with much trouble, I get a message saying that their bodies have been found and are being transported to a hospital. I ran out of my class and met with the rest who were rushing to the hospital. As we travelled not one of us said a thing and everyone were busy saying their prayers and preparing our minds. as we ran holding our breath and as the bodies were wheeled out of the ambulance into the hospital for the post-mortem, those moments i wish, no one ever has to go through.

To see the body of someone close is terrible enough, but how do you react when you see the body which has been in the water for almost 24 hours, hence bloated and bleeding, stiffened due to rigor mortis in an embracing position, skin which is sallow and pale, a face which is almost unrecognizable, weed and stems stuck on the body from inside the lake......

It can melt and scare even the strongest of the hearts......the scream and shrieks, the sobbing and the wailing of each and everyone of us who witnessed that will remain in my heart till the end of my life....it will be a haunting reminder that it is not just the grandpa's and grandma's or the weak hearted or the bed ridden who leave us, it could very well be someone amongst us, someone studying, with the same aspirations and dreams as us, someone who was living for his mother, someone with the most gorgeous smile anyone could see, someone who had the most novel way of giving a hug and someone who didn't think for a second before he jumped into the water to save the life of his friend.

Nino, we all believe you are up there in the sky amongst the million other stars, we know you are looking down on us with that beautiful smile, alwasy wishing that we stay out of trouble and making sure we are always happy. Thank you for your beautiful life that touched so many lives and transformed them. We all stand bound by our love for you and we all stand teary-eyed as we face the sky to say a very painful goodbye........

It is so true Tan..8th of january will always have another side to it now. It won't be just any other happy day [with Sherry our roomamte's bday] but it will also be a day where we remember how a dear friend was taken away from us.

It happened all so soon. Me getting a call saying that Nino could not be found at the water body, then making frantic calls to my 4 roomates to try and convey the message to them, asking them to pray, staying alone in the room with Tan at night. I still remember how difficult it was for us to sleep since all i could think of was whether our dear Nino was alive and cold while I lay snug under a blanket!

Life has definitely taught us a lesson. People come n go in your life but you should treasure each and every moment that you have with each other. Its in man's innate nature to have disagreements and fall outs between friends and those near us. This is a lesson which tells us not to leave a patch up work till the end. Tomorrow is not ours so we should make the most of today.

Nino, we love you and always will. We know that you are watching over us. Keep us safe. Just remember that you will always be a part of our lives and your memory we will cherish in hearts till our very end!
